The UP Panitikan is a non-profit, non-political organization of writers in the University of the Philippines Manila. It is an accredited university-based organization that was found on June 20, 2004 in the College of Arts and Sciences.
The UP Panitikan firmly believes that literature is a by-product of social reality, and that it must serve as a catalyst for change towards a just social order. It holds that literature is an effective bearer of truth. In order to promote and effect social change, literary works must go through scrutiny and criticism by the Organization in order to ascertain their motives and effects to the general readers. Further, the UPP upholds that there is no opportunity for neutrality; that our writings should reflect our stand and position on conflicts and contradictions taking place in the society.
As future stewards of our country, we maintain that our writings should promote the general welfare and rights of the students and the Filipino people in general.
It started with 4 founding members and 12 members in 2004 and now it has 28 members and a few unaccounted for. Ms. Maricris Martin of the Department of Arts and Communication is the org's adviser starting this year.
Some of its projects include: Poetry Reading, Writing Seminar Workshops, Alternative Classes for members and Publications (zines and literary compilations).
Currently, the organization has come out with “Literature Laboratory” a compilation of literary works of UP Manila students, faculty and staff. It is also planning for its next zine that will come out early 2009.

How's your summer? As for me, I'm required to render 200 hours of work to a company and I technically have no rest; it's a 9-7 type of job (Kahit na hanggang 6 lang talaga kami. See I'm that workaholic). I'm extending my work until the end of May (Spell workaholic talaga... dahil mahal ko ang kumpanya kung saan ako nag-i-intern. Haha), so I only have a week to rest. Tapos giyera na naman ulit as I face the challenges of a college senior student. THESIS HERE I COME! XD
Anyway, we would like to inform you that we now have a new set of officers for AY 2009-2010... and they are: *drum roll*

Wow, marami pala kaming gagawing upgrades/updates dito sa blog. :) Rest assured that we have tons of ideas na susubukan naming i-materialize.

The theme can be interpreted in different ways (negative/positive) as long as the pieces would come out to be profound, poignant and hopefully life changing. Think deep. Think extraordinary. Think PANITIKAN.
But don't go overboard as well. Literary pieces are limited to 200 words. Be brief, be concise. We're no longer in high school, this is college, no need for much drama.
So go on warriors, time to battle with your pens :)

1. Deadline for the sig sheets is on July 31, Thursday. You may give it to any UPP member which you would probably find in the tambayan :)
2. The tambay hours has been reduced to six from ten. Just make sure to have a member sign your sig sheet to certify your tambay hours. (don't worry, we'll make it a point to have someone there each time)
3. To identify the UPP members from mere CAS students, here is the color coding scheme for each day: (in true UPP fashion, figure out what these colors are from the poetry excerpts)
